Pipe locators are different from the traditional electromagnetic cable locators due to their ability to locate the underground water pipes that are made of non-metallic materials (concrete, PVC and polyurethane). By simply attaching a device called a Transonde to a water tap, a water pipe locator allows the pipe to be located with relative ease.
